Locorotondo
One of the Borghi più belli d’Italia and Bandiera Arancione of the Touring Club Italiano, Locorotondo is a country that fascinates by the characteristic circular shape of the old town, built around the year one thousand, consisting of the typical cummerse, small houses with a sloping roof that peasants built on top of the hill, now accessible by tourists as accommodation facilities after careful restoration work.
The town is located in the heart of the Valle d'Itria and is the most beautiful balcony of the Murgia dei Trulli with a breathtaking view in every season, vineyards bordered by dry stone walls, olive groves, farms and trulli scattered in every district, they count well 159!
The historical center is a riot of colors, from the whiteness of the lime to the shimmering colors of the flowered balconies that are the background to the Baroque architecture in local stone and to the pointed roofs of the cummerse made of stone chiancarelle. Everything here is graceful, intimate, orderly, suspended between dream and reality.
Locorotondo is also a city of wine, in fact this is the DOC Locorotondo area, white wine produced from Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano grapes, excellent to combine with fish dishes and hors d'oeuvres.
Among the things to see we recommend not to miss the fireworks show that is held every year on August 16 on the occasion of the patron celebrations of San Rocco and which sees the participation of thousands of spectators from every part of Italy and Europe for this sparkling fireworks race.
