Martina Franca and the Apulian baroque
Laughing and sunny town in the province of Taranto, it is only 8 km from Masseria Cappuccini. It is located in the south-eastern hills of the Murgia between the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto and, with its 431 meters s.l.m., overlooks beautiful panoramic views of the Valle d'Itria dotted with trulli and farms. Martina Franca is a Messapian city and preserves in its ancient center places of worship and illustrious buildings in Baroque style to witness a timeless beauty.
In Martina Franca there are plenty of opportunities to go shopping and to admire dozens of windows full of all kinds of goods. There are mainly showrooms and clothing boutiques, given the sartorial tradition of the place where there are countless companies that produce and sell high-fashion clothing also made to measure, exclusively Made in Italy.
Excellent is also the offer of renowned restaurants and bistros that offer menus related to the most traditional flavors with typical ingredients of this area: wild herbs, legumes, meats and cheeses. But Martina Franca is also a city of wine, here is produced the Martina Franca DOC, a lovely white wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, made from Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano grapes..
Also famous is the production of the capocollo of Martina Franca, obtained from pigs reared in the fragrant woods of the area and prepared with Mediterranean aromatic wine and herbs and then smoked. Do not miss the orecchiette with cime di rapa or with polpette and cacioricotta.
